Jeanne Dolores Murphy Hoffman

Jeanne Dolores Murphy Hoffman, third child of Arthur and Ethel Murphy, was born on May 18, 1918 in New York City. She attended Resurrection School in Rye, NY for eight years, and then graduated from Port Chester High School at age 15, having accelerated her program so she could start work early to contribute to the family's needs. In 1940, in a simple ceremony, she married Herbert Hoffman, and gave him four children by 1946, two girls, Barbara and Marybeth, and two boys John and Paul. At that time, Herb left her to raise the family by herself. She took a low paying job at a telephone answering service for a few years, depriving herself to provide for the family. A brilliant career at PepsiCo followed where she became an executive secretary and was highly regarded and loved by all who worked with her, including Chairman John Scully who gave a touching tribute to her at her retirement. Jeanne was gentle and caring and generous to a fault. She embodied to the highest degree the quality that Christ commanded - love. Jeanne died in 1997 with her family at her side.
